What are the best virtual instruments and samples for Hip Hop? I see this question so often on various forums and the answers are only: there are no instruments for Hip Hop, you can use any of them and so on…
But still, let‘s try to answer this question.
- DAW (Digital audio Workstation)
For audio recording and mixing I prefer Cubase.
For beatmaking – the easiest, but still very powerful solution is FL studio. I like it for its simplicity, features and price, of course! By the way, I can give you a 10% discount, if you are interested in this beautiful software. Click here to get a discount
- Drum samples:
Drums are playing critical role in your hip hop production.
My suggestion is all in one solution from Producers Choice – Hip Hop Drum Box. These drums are the real deal! By the way, they have very good free drums, click here to download free drum pack.
- VST instruments:
For sampled instruments I choose NI kontakt with expansion libraries. I know this is not cheap, but it’s a must have nowadays. For synths it depends…
- Best VST instruments for Hip Hop production:
Piano: There are many good kontakt piano libraries and standalone instruments. I like EZKeys Vintage Upright piano. You can find it here.
Bass: SubBoomBass. This bass instrument was made for Hip Hop! A lot of good presets. You will find one for your beat.
Synth: I use Sylenth1 with Red Sounds Urban Taste presets. I made these presets, because I couldn’t find any presets suitable for hip hop.
Strings: Urban Strings Library. Very cool kontakt instrument! Great sound for your kontakt sampler! You can find it here.
Kick: Big Kick. Nice addition for your Hip Hop arsenal. It is a kick generator. Big Kick allows you to make your own kicks fast and easy.
Bundles:
Ultimate Production Toolbox V3. Check it here. A must have kit for every hip hop producer. A lot of great sounds. You can make some beat using only this kit. You need a kontakt sampler for this instrument.
Also You can check Urban Suite by UVI.
In later posts I will reveal my go to effects and free resources.
There you can check Must Have Hip Hop Production Tools (Part 2).
